Dragon Fruit are native to Central and South America where they are known as pitaya or pitahaya. It is sensitive to extreme temperature, such as in cold winter or in dessert. This tropical fruit tree will be killed in this extreme temperature.
The dragon fruit flesh can be white, red, or magenta all to varying degrees dependant upon variety. Dragon fruit is low in calories and offers numerous nutrients, including Vitamin C, phosphorus, calcium, plus fiber and antioxidants.The red fleshed varieties contain lycopene which is a natural antioxidant known to fight cancer, heart disease, and lower blood pressure.
First stage of planting the dragon fruit will take few months to fruiting. The plant will not produce any flower and fruit until it reach into certain maturity. At minimum, you have to wait until 8 to 10 month before the plant produce its first fruit. The duration varies depending on fertilizer applied and weather condition. Once the plant start fruiting, it will continuously produces fruit and will be less production in rainy season.
